Jeep I am researching a Dutch escape line for Allied airmen, Jews, Dutch patriots, and escaped French prisoners of war that was headed by Karst Smit, a marechaussee (Dutch Royal Mounted Police) assigned to Baarle-Nassau. I would like to locate one of his key associates, the marechuasse David Jonkers, born in Dordrecht 24 December 1918, or members of his family if he is no longer living. He worked in the escape line first in Hilvarenbeek, then in Goirle. He went into hiding in 1944 but survived the war. By 1945 he was assigned to the Canadian Intelligence Service Field Security. He may have emigrated to Candada.

Eugene Hughes - isle of wight,uk.

Jeep My wife's father, William Scope, served with the King's Roal Rifles. He was captured at Calais, and spent some time at Stalag 8b in Krakow.

Does anyone out there have any information about him?

Jeep My father Staff Sgt. Julius Stamato was stationed in Iceland, Germany & England during World War II. He was in Squadron K 112th AAF Base Unit. I think he was in the 9th infrantry. When General Frank Andrews plane crashed on May 3, 1943, my father's troop was in charge of retrieving plane parts from the wreckage. Unfortunately, my father never was able to carry out that mission, as his jeep got stuck in a snow enbankment and while he was trying to push it out, he lost his footing and fell down part of the mountain. He suffered a broken collarbone and neck and was hospitalized for several months. I am trying to find out if there was anything written in the newspaper in Iceland about my dad's accident as well as General Andrews. I have found a few articles on Gen. Andrews, but nothing mentioned about my father's troop retrieving parts from the wreckage. Unfortunately, I cannot retrieve any of my father's medical records as they were destroyed by the fire in St. Louis, as many others were. We tried to get him the purple heart before he passed away 4 yrs. ago, as he had shrapnel scarring on his shins caused by gunfire during the war. He never wanted to seek medical care from the VA, so there was no acutal proof on record that my father was injured by gunfire. If anyone out there might have known my father or his squadron, please contact me at: Ibex@flash.net

Thank you.
Donna

Jeep I was in CoE 393rd 99th div. We were shipped by rail to NY. We then were put on ship for England. Went to Dorchester England October 2nd 1944 put on LSP ship. Landed at LaHarve France, in early morning. Truck to Belgium. October went to front line. The 393reg was on front line November 9th. I went on night patrol, I was scout, there were 6 men in squad. I came to a clearing, for we had been in forest, Ilooked to opening and saw a large tree in middle of field, This was to be my next run. I was almost to back of tree when I saw a flash of light to my right, I diveded for tree, but bullet went across my right leg. The boys patched me up, They went on to complete misson. I was told to try and crawl back to forest, which I did.All happened on November 11 44. My birthday being November 18 25, so I was not 19 yet. I would like to from some one where JON JOST of the 393rd reg 99th div is located, I know he is alive. My Co E 393rd was all wipped out after Dec. 19 44, or during Battle of Bulge.

Jeep My father, JOHN PALUMBO from DuBOIS,PENNSYLVANIA was in the 5th Engineers, Army. He was stationed in Iceland, Greenland, France, Belgiium, England, Italy, Germany. He rarely spoke of the war, ao I have very little information. I know he was in the Battle of the Bulge. I have a picture of a bridge they built in Holland - in 10 days - while under fire! He sometimes referred to himself as "doc" as he was a medic while in Europe. He also talked a lot about Captain Abernathy who was is CO.

I did do some researchon miy own, though and contacted the 5th Engineers Headquarters in MO. They sent me a copy of a book that was from my dad's unit and told me how to request replicas of his medals. Also, contactig relatives led to postcard that my dad sent to them from Europe and even a pencil drawing (of him) done by someone in his unit!

My sister found a negative roll with about 5 or 6 pictures on it when my dad passed away. It had never been developed; I took it to a camera shop and they developed the 50+ year old negatives. It shows my dad playing baseball in Europe on VE Day!! There are others in the picture, but I know none of their names.

If anyone has any knowledge of my dad or served with him PLEASE email or write to me. I will share any info or pictures that I have!! Thank you, Patty Bonghi

Jeep I am makeing a shadow box for my husband honoring his father who was a vetran of the Normandy beach invasion, he was infantry and in the enginering copr. He was a bridge builder and often said they could see the Germans blow the bridges up as they built them. He has passed on and because he never spoke of his war experiences no one knows the name of any of the units who landed on the beach, held the beach, or went on to build the bridges. Are there any medals, ribbons,or campaign buttons for this important part of our nations heros? I would love to here from a vetrans who would know this information.. Thank you and thanks for your contribution to our great nations freedom.. Karen Norman

Sheri Bell-Rehwoldt - Buffalo, New York.

Jeep Hi. I'd like to share that I've written a children's activity book that focuses on both the homefront and battle fronts of WWII. It's a great way to explain the war to grandkids!

"Great World War II Activities You Can Build Yourself"
ISBN: 0977129411
Author: Sheri Bell-Rehwoldt
Age: 9 and up

My activity book encourages children to re-create life in the 1940s while learning about compassion, teamwork, and sacrifice. Touching upon nearly every aspect of the war, from the leadership of Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt to the invention of new military technologies, a clear understanding of the causes and effects of World War II is provided through the hands-on creation of period-specific implements. Activities include making a papier-mache bank, tabletop victory garden, flip book, spy message hidden in a deck of cards, soldier's care package, fake footprint mold, victory jewelry pin, ration book, and more.

I hope you'll check it out. You can order it from Amazon:

Walter Mason - Sedona, Arizona, USA.

Jeep My father, Captain Walter N Mason Jr, was killed on Mt Lungo on December 20 while with the 93rd Armored Field Artillery Battalion. He stepped on a German land mine. He was buried in Bairano or Vairano. I will visit Italy next year and would like to see Mt Lungo and that cemetery. His body was removed after some years and brought 'home' to the USA. With thanks, Walter N Mason III

Jeep A friend in England was asked for assistance - so he asked me to help find: Canadian, Joseph Robert LEVASSEUR - who was in England (Nottingham) with the RCAF in the 40's. He was thought to have come from Montreal and if living, would be in his late 70's or early 80's. We would appreciate any information re. this man.

Shawn Jalbert - Alfred, Maine USA .

Jeep My grandfather served in the Pacific theater operations during WWII, I believe from about 1942-1946. His name was Joeseph Henri Jalbert and was a TEC 5 in the US Army. He passed away more then 15 years ago and I have only fragments from my Dad as to what his function was. First of all what does the TEC 5 designation mean? What was this division of the army responsible for? He was in the Phillipines, Papua/New Guinea, and was in Hiroshima 1 month after the atomic bomb was detonated there. I hope this background info helps.

Thank you Shawn Jalbert
